LYNX Surgical Video Link

OR Networks have developed a unique two way video streaming system that can be used for distant learning, or live video tuition and mentoring from the operating theatre, directly to the desktop of surgeon consultants or trainee delegates across the LAN, WAN or Internet for international links (see our project on Tanzania in Case Studies).

The LYNX system has several unique features specifically designed in for healthcare applications:

Automatic Speed Detection

* Works at full resolution, full frame rate across fast enterprise wide LANs and automatically adjusts to available bandwidth.
* Scales down to 50kbps for internet video, for lower resolutions and less frame rate etc. (more like Skype, MSN).

Variable Bandwidth

* assymetrical transmission, i.e. if you have a fast download speed and slow upload speed, you can receive 
high quality images whilst only being limited to low-resolution images you send, rather than being restricted to the lowest common speed.

Variable View

* split screen
* PIP
* clip capture/image grab
* Display on local PC monitor or large projection screens, LCDs etc.

Secure

* 256bit encryption (uncrackable) for secure Tx e.g. medical and surgical images

Assymetrical bandwidth management: this is important to ensure the best quality pictures are transmitted from the operating theatre. Most video chat applications downscale to the lowest common denominator, LYNX treats the up and down streams as separate transmission and achieves the highest possible quality for both incoming and outgoing images.

Encryption: We take patient confidentiality seriously, it is widely reported that most internet based video traffic from consumer PC programs are recorded and accessible via hacking. the risk of an operation being dispplayed on public social network sites is very high. LYNX uses a 256 bit encryption, the key is unique to each viewer. 256 bit means that the code is seriously unbreakable.
